The Sextant 2020 NEW RELEASE!
65% Shiraz/32% Merlot/3 % Malbec
Yield: 4 tonne/hectare
Soils: Black sandy loam over limestone with a high ph.
Winemaking: Dry grown, hand-picked, basket pressed in whole bunches, malolactic fermentation in barrel. Aged for 22 months in 10% Grande Reserve American Oak and 90% Grande Reserve French Oak used with the new oak component being 35% with 2, and 3 year old oak barriques. The new oak percentage has come from middle of the Forrest growth oak with a tighter knit and seamless feel. Minimal intervention when bottled.
Tasting Comments: the 2020 vintage sees a slightly softer expression - an Amarone style reimagined - less dramatic opera more Adagio for Strings. The nose is drenched with cherry liqueur, dried figs, dates and plum sauce. The palate and finish is opulent – layered, seamless and impossibly long. It has a richness without the weight of such a big wine. It is the type of wine that you buy and sit on and pray your marriage stays together long enough so that you can drink it on your 20th anniversary.
