Tasting Comments:
We named this very small batch - Torpedo Rocks “The Stolen Hill” Shiraz - as our neighbour Colin keeps saying that why our Shiraz is so good is because all his topsoil magically crosses the road and ends up in our paddock. Effectively we have stolen it. Allegedly. The 2021 vintage is the closest expression of the Syrah style we have made – more Dean Martin than Led Zeppelin. Smooth, melodic and lighter on its feet; the nose is sweet cherries, plums, blackberry with a dash of white pepper, anise and curry leaf. On the palate, the fruits follow through beautifully, joined by smatterings of the famous chocolate-coated cherry ripe bars with darker fruits quietly loitering in the background before a finish of toasty oak. The tannins of this vintage are so smooth and suave that you have just agreed to a date with a work colleague you had no interest in - by dessert, you’re discussing holiday plans.
