Soils: Alluvial flats and quartz gravel
Winemaking: Dry grown, hand-picked, basket pressed - 5% being whole bunches - malolactic fermentation in barrel. Aged for 18 months in 100% Grande Reserve French Oak used with the new oak component being 40% with 2, and 3 year old oak barriques. The new oak percentage has come from middle of the forrest growth oak with a tighter knit and seamless feel.
Tasting Comments:
We start with a nose of warm brioche and a delicate veil of violets that evolves into something more brooding. It opens with intense concentrated cassis, deep red forest fruits, brambles, briary notes and draped in a finely tailored cloak of cedar with understated assurance. As it moves across your palate, the hero’s of the 2020 vintage have matured considerably - the honeymoon is indeed over, replaced by a deeper and more enduring partnership built on structure, substance and mutual respect. Layers of blackberry, baked plums are underpinned by savoury notes of dark cacao and sweet vanilla baking spices. The tannins are very firm and tightly knit, providing a framework that carries the wine effortlessly across your palate. Where its predecessor charmed with grace, this vintage arrives with broader shoulders, a firmer handshake and without the need to prove itself.
